Interview with Louis Constantin (DISCOFUNKEN)

There are very few hours of the highly anticipated live Discofunken weblog Mads CTRL scheduled to Thursday 25 November. But before "unleash hell" on the notes of their explosive electro-contaminated funk rock, breakbeat and minimal tech, we decided to let you know. Exclusive to the blog of the leader of the CTRL Discofunken, Constantin Louis, tells us about the project and gives us a preview on their future work, through the beginnings and experiences abroad of two European tours.

How and when born Discofunken the project?

born between the period where I played with New York's Hot Seconds and Berlin, where I played with a German band and in parallel with Russian musicians, Turkish and Vietnamese! I wandered among the local Williamsbourg and Lower East Side and then in Berlin between Panorama Bar, Mary, and The Visioner similar thirst for music. Basically I listened to some indie and electronica on the other. Making electronic music played with instruments classified as "rock" was quite natural. I adopted the name for the project was initially Telefunken, but for obvious copyright reasons I decided to keep only "Funken" because the meaning (spark). When we had to release the first single, called Jfrank Discofunken, non ci pensai due volte e adottammo questo nome per la neonata crew.

I Discofunken, però, non sono solo Constantin Louis: ci sono anche Blitz inc. e Natasha. Qual è il loro contributo al progetto?

Blitz inc. arriva con il live alla grande serata di L-ektrica, circa un'anno e mezzo fà. Una forza inerrestabile, a Roma è conosciuto da tutti! Se non lo conoscete dovete assolutamente vederlo e ammirare il suo show e vj set!! Natasha è appena entrata e già abbiamo prodotto delle hit fantastiche come "Well Dress Nice Dance" che suoneremo in anteprima nel live di giovedì. Ha un ottima capacità di produrre suoni che potreste ascoltare incantati per ore. Portare lei nei live è stato obbligatorio!

Superato il periodo dell'esordio, tutto fila liscio. La gente incomincia ad apprezzarvi, ma ad un certo punto c'è la svolta. Quando hai capito che le cose stavano cambiando?

L'arrivo di Radiodd con Hugo Sanchez e Rodion è l'inizio di una serie di fortunate coincidenze. Ma a loro sarò sempre riconoscente per il supporto che ancora oggi danno in ogni senso. Da lì in poi escono Ep con etichette italiane e inglesi che invadono tutti i siti del globo, poi arriva la Warner per portare tre tracce sul film "David's Birthday"(appena uscito in Dvd!!) e il primo tour europeo. La più grande soddisfazione è quando suoniamo live, dove troviamo sempre nuovi supporter entusiasti. In Italia stiamo crescendo velocemente, sembra che il pubblico italiano non voglia aspettare di sentire se siamo fighi all'estero. La nostra intenzione è di unire band come Shirt Vs T shirt, Frank Sent Us, Tavrvs, Did e Cat Claws, solo per citarne alcuni in una grande crew italiana come fanno in Belgio, Germania, Francia, etc! Non è tanto per i generi, abbastanza diversi trà loro, ma per l'attitudine nel proporsi.

I Discofunken con Peaches

Quindi l'estero: arrivano due tour Europei e arrivano anche Peaches, We Have Band, Ebony Bones, Le Corps Mince De Francoise e The Horrors. These are just some of the artists with whom you have shared the stage. Tell us something about these experiences.

We know you have many projects in the pipeline for the future.

We are closing two videos and the Spring European dates to promote the upcoming release of the end of February! RaiTrade to come out of a job Discofunken who use the canals. At present we are producing a band and two Italian artists, a Belgian and an avalanche of remixes!

Thursday there will be some surprises for the audience of CTRL?

Absolutely. Together with the Yakuza, Skalibur Supermarket and DDP will be the hottest night-punk-electro-dance of the capital! Thanks and see you Thursday!
